Amsterdam

So, my Spring Break voyage began in Amsterdam. Austin and I took a train from Paris to Amsterdam with a short stop in Brussels (see my entry on that from the beginning of the semester if you'd like to see more about that).

We arrived in the city and found out that there was a carnival going on! There were ton's of rides in Dam Square and just hordes of people. We didn't end up going on any of the rides, but it made the city seem like a huge party. We ended up renting bikes for two of the days we were there. Bike's are the main mode of transportation in the city (there's tons!) and they made getting around the city much easier.

The old architecture of the city was pretty cool. Most of the old buildings were made of brick and looked to have held up really well. We ended up spending a lot of time around the castle in one of the main squares and spent some time in a park a bit further with more huge buildings and a sign that said IAMSTERDAM

While we were there we also visited the Van Gogh Museum and the Rembrandt Haus, unfortunately there was no photography in either. The Van Gogh Museum was a bit small for the 10€ price, but it was well worth it. There was one floor dedicated to his work, a few more with similar and influenced artists.

The Rembrandt Haus was also small, but we got a student discount. There were many of his pieces, all amazing. We spent a lot of time in the museum just in awe of the detail of his work. Also in the museum were illustrations and other prints. The illustrations were mainly of insects and plants, like for encyclopedias, but were incredibly detailed.

Our last day was short, we had to get up early, return the bikes, and head to the train station to get on our way to Berlin. Check back soon for more of my adventure!
